CEREMONY

All degree candidates are asked to meet at the Boise Centre on the Grove at 6:30 p.m. to start line-up procedures.

RECEPTION

The President's Office will host a reception immediately following the ceremony. Friends, family, and faculty are invited to join in congratulating the new graduates. Light refreshments will be served.

SPEAKER

J. Patrick McMurray ’70, past president of the Idaho Region for Wells Fargo Bank, will present the commencement address. He started his career as a management trainee with First Security Bank of Idaho in 1971, and was named president of the bank in 1988. First Security merged with Wells Fargo in 2000. He retired in Dec. 2007. McMurray also served for six years as a director of the Federal Reserve Bank of San Francisco’s Salt Lake City branch. He earned a bachelor degree in finance from the University of Idaho and completed graduate work at the University of Oklahoma and the University of Washington. Among his numerous community service activities, he has served in numerous leadership capacities including as past vice chairman of the board of directors for the Idaho Community Reinvestment Corporation and past president of the Boise Public Schools Education Foundation. He also served as chairman of the Boise Art Museum board and was chairman of the Salvation Army Advisory board. Currently, he is a member of the board of trustees of St. Luke's Regional Medical Center and is a member of the boards of directors of the Idaho Business Council and the Idaho Business Coalition for Educational Excellence.

PRESIDENT’S MEDALLION

The President’s Medallion is presented to individuals who have made significant contributions to the cultural, economic, scientific and/or social advancement of Idaho and its people, and have provided exceptional service to the state or nation that has influenced the well-being of humankind.

Tom ’58 and Alice Hennessey will receive the President’s Medallion. Tom Hennessey was born in Colorado and came to Idaho in 1935 with his family. His father was a cattle dealer. Hennessey attended the College of Idaho for a year and then transferred to the University of Idaho as a business major. After army service during the Korean War, he worked with his father in the cattle business. He also worked on a dude ranch in Arizona before deciding to finish his degree. He returned to the University of Idaho, and was named the outstanding business student in his graduating class. Hennessey joined Boise Cascade’s corrugated container division, where he rose to sales manager before deciding that corporate life was not for him. He returned to his first love, cattle business. Since retiring from the cattle business, Hennessey has served on the boards of the Bishop Kelly Foundation, the Boise Art Museum, the Humphreys Diabetes Center and the Children’s Home.

Alice Hennessey earned her undergraduate degree at the University of Colorado and did graduate work at the Harvard-Radcliffe Program in Business Administration. In 1958, she came to Boise to become secretary to the CEO of the fledgling Boise Cascade Corporation. She became an officer of the company in 1971 and retired in 1996 as senior vice president with responsibilities in human resources and corporate relations. After retirement, she co-founded and served as president of the Idaho Community Foundation. She continues her community involvement today through service on the board of St. Luke’s Health System, as a member of the Idaho Humanities Council and as a founding member of the Idaho Women’s Charitable Foundation.
