You seek a leading education in a nationally ranked program. A place where you'll meet high-achieving students like you. The University Honors Program (UHP) offers small, stimulating classes with diverse curriculum taught by select honors faculty. You'll enjoy mentoring relationships, in-depth topic exploration, and distinctive extracurricular offerings.
Here's what makes the University Honors Program an exceptional opportunity:
- National acclaim: We're ranked among the "Best Honors Programs at State Universities Nationwide" by Ivy League Programs at State School Prices, and have won praise by The New York Times Guide to the Best Buys in College Education and How to Get an Ivy League Education as a State School.
- Outstanding academics: Examine general education subjects in significant depth through small, discussion-based classes. Upper-division seminars, limited to 15 students, take an innovative approach to specialized topics.
- Faculty mentoring: Limited class sizes allow honors faculty to focus on each student. This mentoring relationship will enhance your academic performance, push you to meet your potential, and put you in touch with research opportunities.
- Thrive and achieve: Students excel in honors classes thanks to the focus on participation and mentoring.
- Diverse students: You'll join more than 500 students from colleges and majors all across the University in diverse and enriching courses.
- Scholarship opportunities: More than 100 UHP students receive academic merit scholarships equivalent to more than $525,000. Honors students also have won Fulbright, Goldwater, Phi Kappa Phi, and other national scholarships.
- Study abroad: Honors students participate in semester and yearlong exchange programs to international universities in places such as Australia, China, England, Spain, etc., using scholarships and grants to offset travel and study expenses.
- Priority registration: You'll register alongside the first group of seniors if you meet the required GPA (cumulative 3.3 or above) and have completed on average at least one graded honors course per semester.
- Build community: Make friends, study, and socialize with the UHP community in the Honors Center and through learning and cultural opportunities, such as concerts, plays, films, lectures, and other off-campus trips and activities.
- Residence halls: As an honor student, you're eligible to live in McCoy Scholars' Hall Community and Scholars Living Learning Community.
- Recognition: Receive the University Honors Core Award for completing the honors core curriculum. Graduates who meet specific additional requirements are awarded an Honors Certificate at graduation.
