Living on campus is all about finding a place that fits you best. Choose between residence halls, fraternities, sororities, or family and married housing.
Residence Halls (aka "Dorms")
Residence halls have come a long way since they were referred to as dorms (which comes from the French and Latin words for "a place to sleep"). A residence hall is much more than just a place to rest for the night, it is a place where you live, learn and experience the college life with a group of students. Most students will have a roommate, but single rooms are also available. Your Resident Assistant (known as an "R.A.") lives in the residence hall and is there to help out and put together programs and activities throughout the year.
From the chefs at the dining hall to the residential service team that cleans the buildings, you have an entire group of people working to make your college living and learning experience great. At the University of Idaho you can choose from several residence hall buildings and room layouts, and a number of themed communities, academic communities and traditional communities where you will meet students with different majors and interests.
Fraternities
A fraternity is a social organization for men with common goals and values. It is a brotherhood of friendship, loyalty, and integrity. At the University of Idaho all our Inter-Fraternal Council (IFC) fraternities have living facilities that accommodate between 30-60 men. Our multicultural fraternities do not have living facilities but often live in the residence halls or off-campus together.
Sorority
A sorority is a social organization for women with common goals and values. It is a sisterhood of friendship, encouragement, and caring. At the University of Idaho all of our sororities are national organizations so they can be found on college campuses around the country. Our National Panhellenic Conference (NPC) sororities have living facilities that house between 55-65 women. Our multicultural sororities do not have living facilities but often live in the residence halls or off-campus together.
Family/Married Housing
The University of Idaho offers a great on-campus apartment community with large amounts of green space and playgrounds for students who have children or dependants, students who are married, graduate students, or students over 25.
