University of Idaho Greeks are leaders. Whether it's in the student government, on an intramural sports team, in clubs, or in social situations, when you join a fraternity or sorority you are opening up a wide range of leadership opportunities.

Fraternity and sorority members gain leadership skills, learn to delegate, set goals and manage time more effectively. Greeks are also demonstrated leaders and coordinate most major campus events and social programs.

Each fraternity and sorority member enjoys a special type of relationship. This special friendship is called brotherhood or sisterhood. Each member, with varying backgrounds, shares his/her experiences, hopes, successes and challenges with close lifelong friends.

Close friendships are reached through sharing, laughter, fun service projects, life challenges and growing together. Friendships also reach across campus to members of other fraternities and sororities that share some of the same goals. You'll find yourself working side by side with members of other fraternities and sororities as you network in the classroom, during a part-time job or in other student organizations.

Membership in a fraternity or sorority is a lifetime membership. Choosing to become a member means living with a group of men or women with whom you can share your hopes, dreams, goals and ideals. A Greek experience during your undergraduate years is a gateway to many rewards and connections beneficial in college and later in life.

Fraternities and sororities actively support the community. In fact, a major goal of each chapter is to work with those in need through supporting national philanthropies and local service projects. Community service activities not only enhance your personal wellbeing, but also assist those in the community who are in need.

If you like being active in worthy causes, organizing campaigns or participating in events that help others, Greek life is for you. Each year University of Idaho Greeks raise thousands of dollars and contribute hundreds of hours of volunteer work to worthy causes.

Academics are very important to the Greek community. For several years the Greek community has achieved higher grades than their peers at the university. Every chapter has an academic expectation and has an academic plan to help the students with their academic goals. Some chapters make use of study hours, study tables, class recommendations, study groups, and incentives to assist their members. The Greek community at the University of Idaho offers more than $50,000 in scholarships annually.
