Functional Systems Group
The Functional Systems Support Group is a team of technology professionals that provide maintenance and support for the enterprise management systems of the University of Idaho. The group enables cross-functional communication and improves efficiencies by providing for discussion, collaboration, and organization of professional development opportunities. The group accomplishes this by: Taking responsibility for
- Best practices, standards, policies and procedures to ensure
- systems are developed in the highest quality
- system integrity is maintained
- formal and standard practices are consistent across all areas
- the security of systems and applications is enhanced and maintained to protect the information assets of the institution
- appropriate policies and procedures are in place to provide for the above
- Scheduling upgrade and maintenance functions requiring downtime of systems to minimize impact to end-users
- Technologies supported in development of systems
- New technologies to implement to enhance systems
- Securing institutional systems and data
Acting as a cross-functional communication channel providing
- Information about projects that may affect other developers and the applications they manage
- Coordination and collaboration of developers on cross-functional projects
Promoting professional development and training by
- Identifying needed training for new and experienced developers
- Supporting Human Resources in providing that training
- Exposing developers to new and emerging technologies
- Encouraging sharing of knowledge among developers and central IT functions
Providing technology and policy recommendations to Information Technology Services (ITS) and the Management Systems Directors Group (MSDG).
