The University of Idaho College Assistance Migrant Program (UI CAMP). UI CAMP is a special program at the University of Idaho that assists students who meet the definition of Migrant/Seasonal farm workers or children of migrant farm workers. The program provides support for qualifying students during the first year of their enrollment in higher education.
IMPORTANT DEFINITIONS: • Migrant Farm Worker: A seasonal farm worker whose employment requires travel which keeps the farm worker from returning to a permanent home within the same day. • Seasonal Farm Worker: A person whose primary employment is farm work on a temporary or seasonal basis. • Farm Work: Agricultural activity related to the production of crops, dairy products, poultry, livestock, tree harvesting, or fish farming.
The goal of the Ronald E. McNair Postbaccalaureate Achievement Program is to increase the attainment of the Ph.D. by students from underrepresented segments of society. The McNair Achievement Program is a federally funded educational assistance (TRiO) program designed to prepare undergraduate participants for doctoral studies through involvement in research and other scholarly activities.
The University of Idaho McNair Achievement Program is funded by the U.S. Department of Education at $220,000 per year for four years through the University of Idaho College of Graduate Studies.
TRIO
|
The name TRiO refers to the five educational assistance programs funded under Title IV of the Higher Education Act of 1965.
In the mid 1960's, in support of President Lyndon Johnson's “War on Poverty,” Congress established a series of educational support programs to help low income and first generation Americans enter college, graduate and move on to participate more fully in America's economic and social life. TRiO programs serve over 800,000 Americans. |
Three programs were initially funded (hence the term TRiO), now there are five:
1) Upward Bound offers participating high school students an intensive six-week pre-college experience during the summer;
2) Educational Talent Search serves middle school and high school students during the school year;
3) Student Support Services provides academic and personal support services to college students;
4) Ronald E. McNair Post-Baccalaureate Achievement Program serves juniors and seniors in college with the purpose of encouraging and preparing participants to enter graduate school;
5) Educational Opportunity Centers provide college entrance and financial aid information to older Americans who are economically disadvantaged.
